Independent quality assurance of statutory induction, through the role of the appropriate body, is important for ensuring that schools provide adequate support for their NQTs, and that their assessment is fair and consistent across all institutions.
The appropriate body has the main quality assurance role within the induction process. Through quality assurance, the appropriate body should assure itself that:
- headteachers/principles (and governing bodies where appropriate) are aware of, and are capable of meeting their responsibilities for monitoring support and assessment. This includes ensuring that an NQT receives a personalised induction programme, designated tutor support and the reduced timetable; and
- the monitoring, support, assessment and guidance procedures in place are fair and appropriate.
(Induction for newly qualified teachers (England) - April 2018)
Bury Teaching Schools Alliance have identified a number of experienced Bury headteachers who will quality assure a randomly selected number of schools across Bury during 2019 - 2020. The purpose of the QA visit is to ensure that all parties are meeting their responsibilities as identified within the Induction for newly qualified teachers statutory guidance document (attached below for your reference).
