Julie began her career teaching post-16 Art and Design students in Rochdale and Bolton, before moving to Hulton High School, Salford in 1983. Her organisational abilities led to her success as a Course Director for Art and Design at Parrenthorn High School in 1990, where her evident managerial qualities were acknowledged when she took charge of Careers Education and Guidance.
Later employed as Associate Assistant Headteacher, Julie took on multiple leadership roles as Induction Tutor for NQTs and new staff, Professional Mentor for PGCE students, Performance Management of staff and pastoral support to a Year Team, whilst still retaining her teaching timetable. During her final year of full-time teaching she was influential in creating the Schools Direct PGCE programme for Bury Teaching Schools Alliance, based on her successful experience as a Professional Mentor at Parrenthorn High School in association with several training providers such as Manchester Metropolitan University, The University of Manchester, Edge Hill, Teaching Alliances and SCITTS.
Since retiring from full time teaching in 2016, Julie has enjoyed putting her skills and years of valuable experience to good use by becoming the Secondary Programme Lead for Schools Direct PGCE Students for Bury Teaching Schools Alliance. She is committed to covering all subject areas within this role and has taken pride and pleasure in being successfully involved with recruitment, school support, Continual Professional Development, mentoring, observations, feedback and liaison with MMU.
